In July, WWF gave their second installment of the new 'In Your House' franchise, WCW put out their last pay-per-view before the debut of their new live Monday night weekly TV show and ECW hosted Hardcore Heaven and Heatwave '95. All with mixed success.
The Rankings:
10 - Bill Alfonso - Maybe the most instantly-hated character in the history of wrestling. Fonzie has captured the essence of Philadelphia. And works against every single bit.
9 - 911 - One of the most over acts in the country. Taking his unrivalled chokeslam finishing manouevre to new heights with four, five, six... Lord help Bill Alfonso.
8 - Luna - Never one to shy away from a fight, Mad Dog Vachon's little niece got a shot at the Tag Titles this month. And rose to the occasion like no-one else. Great show.
7 - Dean Douglas - The former Franchise finally gets his shot at the big time. Whilst plenty of TV time with vignettes; there are big, early doubts about his 'Dean' gimmick...
6 - Jeff Jarrett - Double-J had his 'live' singing debut this month and only just lost out in a star-making match to Shawn Michaels; but has he walked out of WWF for good?
5 - The Giant - Only hearing of WCW's 7' 2" Paul Wight recently, he's been pushed straight into main event angles. Not bad for the not-so Jolly, definitely Green, Giant.
4 - Kevin Sullivan/TaskMaster - An over-weight, middle-aged, bald man with a seriously neutered character. Still main events in the biggest stable and now head booker. Wow.
3 - Vader - The Rocky Mountain monster is back in the main event and is getting more promo time; but his 'face run cannot go the same way as WWF's Big Bam Bigelow...
2 - Taz - As repackages go, this is an absolute blueprint. Given a monster push throughout the month with squashes, promo's & video packages. Very well deserved.
1 - Shawn Michaels - Following on from last month's 1995 half-year review, HBK held on to top-spot by becoming new IC Champion in WWF's best PPV match of the year.
Overall, a very hit & miss start to the second half of the year, but WWF & ECW both have ready-made stars in Shawn & Taz. WCW continue to push the Three Fac... Dungeon of Doom; but we await the in-ring debut of the Giant. Next month sees Summerslam and the final build to WCW's Monday Nitro. Thoughts & comments below.
